Sarah is a criminal defence lawyer at Beach & Starkie. She is dedicated to getting the best possible outcome for her clients and knows that hard work and preparation are the keys to success. Sarah represents youth and adult clients in Ottawa, and throughout the Eastern Region, at all levels of court. She has a particular interest in assisting offenders in the Mental Health, Youth, and Indigenous Persons Courts. Regardless of the charge, Sarah brings her years of experience and passion for criminal law to every client, and provides them with a thorough and strategic defence. Sarah has represented clients facing a wide array of criminal offences including, but not limited to: impaired driving, assault and assault causing bodily harm, possession of a firearm, fraud, drug possession and trafficking, and robbery.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Sarah received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, with a minor in Political Science from Carleton University in 2008. She graduated with highest honours and was awarded the Senate Medal of Honour for academic achievement. Subsequently, Sarah attended law school at the University of Ottawa and received her Juris Doctor in 2011, graduating magna cum laude.

Prior to being called to the bar in 2012, Sarah articled at Foord Davies LLP, after having worked there for almost four years throughout her schooling. During this time, Sarah assisted senior counsel with preparation for bail proceedings, Charter Applications, complex trials, difficult sentencing hearings and numerous appeals before all levels of court.

Since beginning her own practice in 2012, Sarah regularly assisted clients with bail hearings, difficult trials, and sentencing hearings before the Ontario and Superior Courts of Justice, as well as negotiating favourable resolutions in appropriate cases. Sarah joined Beach & Starkie in May, 2013 and became a partner in August, 2017.

Sarah is actively involved in the local criminal defence bar. She currently holds the position of Secretary with the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa, and participates on a number of courthouse and organizational committees in that capacity. She is a member of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa and Criminal Lawyers Association. Sarah participates in a mentorship program through the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Common Law, has been a guest lecturer at both of Ottawa’s universities, and was a part-time instructor in the law clerk program at Algonquin College.
